This site has been funded by a grant from Awards for All and from local individuals and institutions.

The project is dedicated to the memory of those men and women from the former Ryton Urban District Council area (the villages of Clara Vale, Crawcrook, Greenside, Ryton, Stargate and Addison) who lost their lives whilst serving in the armed forces, or were killed by enemy action, during the conflicts of the twentieth century.

We aim to provide historical information, and a photograph of each person and related images, for each individual from the main Ryton memorial, the five local colliery memorials, and six memorials from local churches.

We Need Your Help

The website currently contains the information we have researched to date. We would like to thank the many members of the local community who have helped with the research and who provided information, photographs, artefacts and documents. This work is still on-going and we now need help to complete our research from anyone who visits the site who can provide us with additional information. If you have any additional material about any individual, or relevant photographs, please contact us. We will be grateful for any further information and all contributions will be accredited accordingly.
